What to Look for in a PS3 Controller Fix

If you find that your controller isn’t working , you may think that buying a new one is the quickest way out, instead of searching for a PS3 controller fix.  But if the problem is not in the controller it wouldn’t help. Controller faults are often due to a synchronization problem with the bluetooth element.  If this is the issue you have it’s quite easy to fix.

One easy PS3 controller fix involves resetting your controller connection.  First, connect the controller to the USB controller charger and hit the “PS” button.  Then unplug the USB cord and hit the “PS” button again.  If it’s just a simple problem of synchronization, that should take care of it.

The next thing to check is whether your console is getting enough air flow.  The PS3 can build up quite a bit of heat, especially if you’re pushing the console to the limit, so it needs lots of ventilation.  Don’t stack stuff on top of the console, or around it.  If necessary, reposition it for better cooling.  Give it a good cleaning, too, and make sure the air vents aren’t clogged with dust or lint (happens frequently in winter when your furnace is running).

You could also open up your PS3, if you feel confident enough, and check the connections — try using a good electronic cleaner to spray the connections (one that dries with no residue, specifically intended for electronic equipment). Sometimes a loose or dirty connection will cause problems for the controller. I would not recommend this if your console is still under warranty, because you might void the warranty coverage.

The PS3 is one of the best quality gaming systems on the market but even still, problems can crop up.  If your console is out of warranty you’re looking at a minimum of $150 and 6 weeks without your game when you send it out for repair.  And when you get it back all of your data will have been erased.   When you need a PS3 controller fix your best bet is to get a good manual and do it yourself.
